FAQ
How beach volleyball tournaments work
What is the Beach Pro Tour?
The international circuit of the FIVB, with three levels of events (Elite16, Challenge and Futures) that all earn points for the world ranking and the Olympic race.
What is an Elite16?
The highest level of the Beach Pro Tour, where only the 16 best teams in the world play the main draw, for the most ranking points and prize money.
What is a Challenge?
The middle level of the Beach Pro Tour, with a strong international field and the ranking points teams need to reach the Elite16 events.
What is a Futures?
The entry level of the Beach Pro Tour, where teams collect their first international ranking points.
What does "Qualification" mean?
Teams with fewer ranking points play a qualification round before the event starts, and only the winners go through to the main draw.
Why are results like 5th, 9th or 17th?
Teams that lose in the same knockout round share the same place, so all four quarter-final losers finish 5th.
What is the CEV Nations Cup?
A European competition for national teams, where each country plays with two pairs and wins or loses as one team.
What are the European and World Championships?
The title events of CEV (every year) and FIVB (every two years), and the 2027 World Championships take place in the Netherlands.
What is a Grand Slam on the Dutch tour?
The biggest events of the Dutch national beach volleyball tour, run by Nevobo, building up to the Dutch Championships in Den Haag.
